In recent years, there has been much interesting progress from disparate subfields of high energy physics, all under the unifying theme of theories with a large number of degrees of freedom. This includes strings in confining gauge theories, conformal field theories, quantum gravity, and the gauge/string dualities. The purpose of this workshop is to bring together experts in those fields to revisit and shed new lights on the original idea of theories of large N.
